10 March Ride of the Month: Rabidbyte |

Congratulations to Rabidbyte for winning MARCH 2010 ROTM
About the owner:
My name is George. I've lived in Miami for 15 years, grew up in L.A. I’m a Network Technician by day, grease monkey by night.

About the car:
The car is a 2001 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS. I'm the original owner, bought it January 27th 2001 two days before the bugeye WRX was delivered to the Subaru dealers.
Was there another car you were considering besides this one?
I have been fascinated with AWD drive since I was a kid. My first performance car was 90 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. When it was time to buy a new car, there weren’t too many cars with turbo AWD drive-trains in my price range. I had considered the WRX but I couldn't get passed how much the bugeye WRX looked like a Dodge Neon.

If so why did you choose this one?
I have to give partial credit to Grand Turismo, and all the other racing games of that era, for my choice.
What do you love most about the car?
My engine swap is by far my favorite part, and one I am most proud of. I did all the work myself. The mechanical part of the swap was fairly easy. Subaru drive-trains and suspensions are mostly interchangeable from 1993 to 2007+. The wiring took me close to 2 months to complete. There was about 150+ wires in both the 2006 and 2001 wiring harnesses to solder together.

What would you change about the car?
Sometimes I wish my car was a coupe, for the simple fact that it would easier to convert to a 22B wide body replica.
What do you hate about the car?
In the USDM market the GC8 has been almost forgotten, and parts overseas are getting harder and harder to come by.

Exterior mods:
Rota 17in Bronze Wheels.
Rear JDM spats.
STi V5/V6 replica lip.
Pink "I" badge.
Rear RS coupe spoiler.
Interior mods:
MY95 JDM seats front and rear.
STi V5/V6 gauge cluster w/ Km\h speedometer
Silver painted center console.
Relocated head unit.
Custom made double din 3 gauge console.
Sparco Pedals.

Suspension mods:
KYB AGX Shocks
SPT GDA blue springs.
04 STi brembo brakes front and rear.
22mm Cusco sway bar in the front, 22mm Subaru in the rear.
06 WRX rack and pinion.
Engine mods:
2006 EJ255 WRX Engine swap.
4.5in top mount intercooler.
RomRaider re-flash, tuned myself.
